Step In To Save A Child....

The tragic events unfolding at Penn State are a crucial reminder to parents everywhere - make sure your youngsters know exactly what to do if they believe an adult is trying to do anything sexual to them. It's right up there with teaching them to not touch a hot stove, looking both ways before crossing a street and staying out of the medicine cabinet.

When all of the facts come out of this nightmare at Penn State many of us will wonder what we would have done. It is my hope that an overwhelming majority of us will pledge to create a new level of awareness, a specific plan to intercede if confronted with this horrific abuse and a willingness to assist the prosecution of offenders to the limit of the laws.

Fantasy Flop 2011

I'm a bit depressed as I write this entry...my two NFL fantasy football teams are about as good as Miami & Indianapolis are this year. If I were a NFL team I'd get to pick Andrew Luck in next years draft!
Oh well, I have more important things to deal with today...Like the Great Monument Blizzard of 2011 coming tomorrow. Yes, I predict we will get 20" of the white stuff on Wednesday and my 13" tall Beagle will be in a world of hurt come bathroom time. Oh well, she will figure out something - probably make the living room her potty room - Yuck!

Fantasy Football Forever!

Oh Boy Oh Boy, I can't wait to start my second season as a fantasy football NFL owner! I intend to creep out of the cellar this season and win it all. How was I to know that Tony Romo would get hurt, that Ochocinco would sputter and that Reggie Bush would splatter? Not my fault. "I've learned from this and moved on"....
Now with the draft approaching I'm honing my skills and faithfully doing my two-a-days. Two donuts a day - but whose counting. I'm reading about all of these players and honestly don't know which of them will still be around come starting Sunday. Teams are cutting players as often as I cut cake. But I will field a team opening day and it will win - I golden guarantee it! The Rock

Queen Bailey...the Beagle

We just rescued a 2 year old Beagle girl this last weekend. She was very timid the first few days...but boy did that change! She is a baying bundle of fun and has taken to us very well. She spent her first two years crated from 8am to 6pm every weekday, had no skills at playing and had never been inside more than 10 minutes. It's still early in her transformation - I'll post again real soon on her progress.

Indian Summer...

I love it when we have a mid-winter warm-up! It is a picture perfect day in Monument today...temperature is 66 degrees, no wind and not a cloud in the sky.

I remember when I was a young sales type working western Canada in the '70's and the locals in Calgary would call this type of weather a Chinook. Our weather gurus in the central Colorado region call it "downslope wind". Whatever you call it - I love the result...no snow and warm weather!

Since we are only 1/2 of the way through the snow season in Colorado, I need to relish the day while keeping the snow shovel handy. More as the 2011 winter progresses....

Halloween 2010...

Well, reminded by my friend of over 40 years, Rich Scallorn, that I've been asleep at the wheel on the Rocky site since I took potshots at Tiger Woods last Feb. - I'm baaack - even if Tiger isn't!

Halloween - yuck! I've been described as a curmudgeon by family, friends and neighborhood kids - so don't expect much tonight. Candy will only be good enough to keep the little farts from egging the house or lighting a bag of dog poop on the front doorstep...you know, like we did back in the day.

Growing up we had a really cool neighbor who always had a bonfire in the middle of the dead-end street nearby my house on Halloween. He let kids roast hot dogs and marshmallows - it was really fun. Maybe I'll pile some wood out on our dead-end street and start a fire tonight....Oh No, here comes the Monument Fire Department, the Woodmoor homeowners rent-a-cop and a bunch of angry neighbors...YIKES! Think I'll put a bowl of candy out and go to bed early....
